Surah Al-Muddaththir ( The One Enveloped ) - Aya count 56
Surah Al-Muddaththir (The One Enveloped) is a Meccan surah of 56 verses. It is surah number 74 in the Mushaf and begins on page 575 of the Madinah Mushaf.

74:1يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْمُدَّثِّرُ ﴿١﴾
O you who covers himself [with a garment],
74:3وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرْ ﴿٣﴾
74:4وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرْ ﴿٤﴾
74:5وَٱلرُّجْزَ فَٱهْجُرْ ﴿٥﴾
74:6وَلَا تَمْنُن تَسْتَكْثِرُ ﴿٦﴾
And do not confer favor to acquire more
74:7وَلِرَبِّكَ فَٱصْبِرْ ﴿٧﴾
But for your Lord be patient.
74:8فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِى ٱلنَّاقُورِ ﴿٨﴾
And when the trumpet is blown,
74:9فَذَٰلِكَ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ يَوْمٌ عَسِيرٌ ﴿٩﴾
That Day will be a difficult day
74:10عَلَى ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ غَيْرُ يَسِيرٍۢ ﴿١٠﴾
For the disbelievers - not easy.
74:11ذَرْنِى وَمَنْ خَلَقْتُ وَحِيدًۭا ﴿١١﴾
Leave Me with the one I created alone
74:12وَجَعَلْتُ لَهُۥ مَالًۭا مَّمْدُودًۭا ﴿١٢﴾
And to whom I granted extensive wealth
74:13وَبَنِينَ شُهُودًۭا ﴿١٣﴾
And children present [with him]
74:14وَمَهَّدتُّ لَهُۥ تَمْهِيدًۭا ﴿١٤﴾
And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life].
74:15ثُمَّ يَطْمَعُ أَنْ أَزِيدَ ﴿١٥﴾
Then he desires that I should add more.
74:16كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لِءَايَٰتِنَا عَنِيدًۭا ﴿١٦﴾
No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate.
74:17سَأُرْهِقُهُۥ صَعُودًا ﴿١٧﴾
I will cover him with arduous torment.
74:18إِنَّهُۥ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ ﴿١٨﴾
Indeed, he thought and deliberated.
74:19فَقُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ ﴿١٩﴾
So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated.
74:20ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ ﴿٢٠﴾
Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated.
74:21ثُمَّ نَظَرَ ﴿٢١﴾
Then he considered [again];
74:22ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ ﴿٢٢﴾
Then he frowned and scowled;
74:23ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ وَٱسْتَكْبَرَ ﴿٢٣﴾
Then he turned back and was arrogant
74:24فَقَالَ إِنْ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحْرٌۭ يُؤْثَرُ ﴿٢٤﴾
And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others].
74:25إِنْ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا قَوْلُ ٱلْبَشَرِ ﴿٢٥﴾
This is not but the word of a human being."
74:26سَأُصْلِيهِ سَقَرَ ﴿٢٦﴾
I will drive him into Saqar.
74:27وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا سَقَرُ ﴿٢٧﴾
And what can make you know what is Saqar?
74:28لَا تُبْقِى وَلَا تَذَرُ ﴿٢٨﴾
It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned],
74:29لَوَّاحَةٌۭ لِّلْبَشَرِ ﴿٢٩﴾
74:30عَلَيْهَا تِسْعَةَ عَشَرَ ﴿٣٠﴾
Over it are nineteen [angels].
74:31وَمَا جَعَلْنَآ أَصْحَٰبَ ٱلنَّارِ إِلَّا مَلَٰٓئِكَةًۭ ۙ وَمَا جَعَلْنَا عِدَّتَهُمْ إِلَّا فِتْنَةًۭ لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ لِيَسْتَيْقِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ وَيَزْدَادَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ إِيمَٰنًۭا ۙ وَلَا يَرْتَابَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ ۙ وَلِيَقُولَ ٱلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌۭ وَٱلْكَٰفِرُونَ مَاذَآ أَرَادَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَٰذَا مَثَلًۭا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَهْدِى مَن يَشَآءُ ۚ وَمَا يَعْلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ وَمَا هِىَ إِلَّا ذِكْرَىٰ لِلْبَشَرِ ﴿٣١﴾
And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity.
74:32كَلَّا وَٱلْقَمَرِ ﴿٣٢﴾
74:33وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذْ أَدْبَرَ ﴿٣٣﴾
And [by] the night when it departs
74:34وَٱلصُّبْحِ إِذَآ أَسْفَرَ ﴿٣٤﴾
And [by] the morning when it brightens,
74:35إِنَّهَا لَإِحْدَى ٱلْكُبَرِ ﴿٣٥﴾
Indeed, the Fire is of the greatest [afflictions]
74:36نَذِيرًۭا لِّلْبَشَرِ ﴿٣٦﴾
As a warning to humanity -
74:37لِمَن شَآءَ مِنكُمْ أَن يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوْ يَتَأَخَّرَ ﴿٣٧﴾
To whoever wills among you to proceed or stay behind.
74:38كُلُّ نَفْسٍۭ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ رَهِينَةٌ ﴿٣٨﴾
Every soul, for what it has earned, will be retained
74:39إِلَّآ أَصْحَٰبَ ٱلْيَمِينِ ﴿٣٩﴾
Except the companions of the right,
74:40فِى جَنَّٰتٍۢ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ ﴿٤٠﴾
[Who will be] in gardens, questioning each other
74:41عَنِ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ ﴿٤١﴾
74:42مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِى سَقَرَ ﴿٤٢﴾
[And asking them], "What put you into Saqar?"
74:43قَالُواْ لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ ٱلْمُصَلِّينَ ﴿٤٣﴾
They will say, "We were not of those who prayed,
74:44وَلَمْ نَكُ نُطْعِمُ ٱلْمِسْكِينَ ﴿٤٤﴾
Nor did we used to feed the poor.
74:45وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ ٱلْخَآئِضِينَ ﴿٤٥﴾
And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it],
74:46وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ ﴿٤٦﴾
And we used to deny the Day of Recompense
74:47حَتَّىٰٓ أَتَىٰنَا ٱلْيَقِينُ ﴿٤٧﴾
Until there came to us the certainty."
74:48فَمَا تَنفَعُهُمْ شَفَٰعَةُ ٱلشَّٰفِعِينَ ﴿٤٨﴾
So there will not benefit them the intercession of [any] intercessors.
74:49فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ ٱلتَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْرِضِينَ ﴿٤٩﴾
Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away
74:50كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌۭ مُّسْتَنفِرَةٌۭ ﴿٥٠﴾
As if they were alarmed donkeys
74:51فَرَّتْ مِن قَسْوَرَةٍۭ ﴿٥١﴾
74:52بَلْ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍۢ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُؤْتَىٰ صُحُفًۭا مُّنَشَّرَةًۭ ﴿٥٢﴾
Rather, every person among them desires that he would be given scriptures spread about.
74:53كَلَّا ۖ بَل لَّا يَخَافُونَ ٱلْءَاخِرَةَ ﴿٥٣﴾
No! But they do not fear the Hereafter.
74:54كَلَّآ إِنَّهُۥ تَذْكِرَةٌۭ ﴿٥٤﴾
No! Indeed, the Qur'an is a reminder
74:55فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ ﴿٥٥﴾
Then whoever wills will remember it.
74:56وَمَا يَذْكُرُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ هُوَ أَهْلُ ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ وَأَهْلُ ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ ﴿٥٦﴾
And they will not remember except that Allah wills. He is worthy of fear and adequate for [granting] forgiveness.
